KY-ASAP
Mini Grants- KY-ASAP Chair, Beth Mitchell reported two grants currently in process.
$15,600 received by ASAP for this fiscal year. Coalition has been contacted by McLean Co. Chamber of Commerce to see if funds are available to help defray the cost of refurbishing the “Welcome To McLean Co” signs on Hwys. 81 and 431. ,KY-ASAP to provide $3300.00, the amount previously approved by the MCCC/ASAP Board.

Twenty-two teens arrested for PI at recent field parties. Lighthouse Counseling has approached Beth regarding classes for students. KY-ASAP can pick up $78.00 assessment fee for any that don’t have medical card. Set amount if 10 students in class at all times. River Valley Behavioral Health Prime for Life program can do classes on issues regarding alcohol and drugs but not strictly behavioral issues. Currently 10 on waiting list but none are from the group of 22 mentioned above. Lighthouse has 3 social workers and 2 therapists at all times.
Underage Drinking-Beth and Joe Van Roberts conducted the “Deal or No Deal” game that addressed alcohol issues, as presented at the May Town Hall meeting followed by a video on underage drinking produced by MCHS students.
Joe Van Roberts posed the question “ What can MCCC and KY-ASAP members do to further combat the issue of changing family lifestyles regarding substance abuse.
Smoke Free School Grounds- Those attending viewed a slide show developed by MCHS Champions Against Drugs club members stressing reasons for smoke free school grounds. CAD members are developing an awareness campaign to be promoted with signs at school locations. These signs will tie-in with newspaper and radio ads and announcements at events. CAD officers presented to those board members attending the June Board luncheon. Board members that attended were supportive of the students efforts and were interested to see what effect the student campaign has on smoking on school grounds. However, no policy changes would be made at this time.
Action Teams-
Tip Line located at Sheriffs’ Department for reporting suspected underage drinking has had numerous calls but not all regarding underage drinking. Increase in calls beginning in March 2010 closer to prom and graduation.
Smoke Free Workplace- David Scott continues to distribute “Proud to Be Smoke Free’ signs and he reported that the new restaurant, Papa’s Steakhouse, is smoke free.
Reader’s Write Articles- Joe Van Roberts suggested that articles supportive of MCCC be submitted to McLean Co News.
Next general meeting scheduled for Sept. 2. Several attending stated noon meetings would work well with their schedules. Board meeting will be held at the Family Resource Center on August 5.
